I decided to go down and watch the Giro di San Francisco today. It's grown in magnitude in the last few years. I meant to go down and root for my friend Henry, but I got there too late. I didn't realize Chris Phipps was racing too, but I left before his race. I probably would have tried to stay if I had known he was racing. It's pretty amazing how fast these racers have gotten. The womans racing was exciting and fast. I saw the race back in the mid eighties and the quality of the race has really gone to a quantum level.
I remember back in 2004 I got it in my head to just jump in and go for it. I impulsively signed up to race. What a bad decision! I sucked so bad. I had raced the Tassajara road race back in 1987/86, the last year that they had the race and I actually won! (my age group). I guess I thought I still had it in me, so I just went for it. I won't make that mistake again. I think my days of racing are officially over. I don't have the ambition anymore. I thought I had it at the end of 2008, but it was a short lived pipe dream. I raced "Mt. Tam and "San Bruno, but when I really started training I quickly burned out from riding. I'm quite impressed with the amount of dedication some my friends have for racing. I hope the best for them and I'll try to be there to cheer them on whenever I can.
The Giro was sponsered by "MetroMint Water", which by the way was horrible. I tried some peppermint flavored water and it tasted like the water you spit out after you've gone to the dentist to get a cavity filled. Yuck! I saw a lot of fixed/SS bikes there too. I was on my fixed gear. I can't believe what a fad it's become. Who would have ever thought? I never pictured myself as the overgrown hipster in a million years. All in all it was a nice way to spend a morning. I ended up riding back around the Embarcadero and Pier 39 with Henry, which turned in to a friendly jousting match. Great times!

They did a horrible marketing job with this event. It seems that the only ones who knew of the event were those locals, like yourself, or those in the race.
Michael, Chris, Ramon, and I did a local ride up OLH, then Kings, and none of us even mentioned the Giro. I only found out after seeing Henry's tweet.
Again, the Giro came and went without me knowing a thing about it. I frequent a few cycling sites and didn't see anything. I just did Paradise while it was going on.
Your right Ron.
